Our 2 min carbon footprint quiz
What inspired the creation of the startup?
I care deeply about sustainability, but a lot of the content out there is very polarizing and alarmist. I wanted to create a hip brand that everyone can relate to with the goal of making sustainable accessible and interesting to more people.
Carbon footprint literacy is currently not offered widespread through traditional educational channels. We’re definitely attempting to step in and take over enablement so we can have a carbon literate society!
What differentiates your startup from the competition?
Fun thing is there is no real competition. No other start-up is interested in carbon literacy, most are interested in ways to remove carbon (often by generating a lot of carbon!).
Who is the target market?
Everybody! Our content is geared towards all ages and demographics! The key is we make it easy and engaging.
How did you grow your presence in your target market?
The 2021 MacBook Air uses an Apple M1 chip that delivers great performance and fantastic battery Lots of instagram and LinkedIn content. I was once told that we are a guerilla marketing house and I guess I don’t disagree. I’ve reached out to Zac Efron’s team that filmed Down To Earth to get clever carbon featured. I’ve written lines for Issa Rae for a new season of her awesome show, Insecure. That’s just the tip of the iceberg. We are very creative with how we get our content out and grow more followers!
What stage are you at?
I started clever carbon in April 2020, but I only started working on it full time since March 2021. Early stages is the answer.
What are some of the biggest challenges that your startup has had to overcome?
Because this was a passion side project, the goal of clever carbon wasn’t to make money and so we had a very limited budget for ads, etc. A year later, we’ve definitely had more momentum, especially with the release of our TEDx talk on The Carbon Literacy Revolution.
What is next for the startup?
The sky is the limit. We have lots of work to do. We’re trying to get employers engaged and act as a platform for carbon literacy. We’re doing fun team building sessions for employee engagement and sustainability. Employees walk away learning about personal carbon footprint and feeling more purpose. It’s a win-win-win. Book yours today!
Where would you like to be in the next 5 years?
Maybe at South by Southwest talking about how we built a carbon literate society?
