In two sentences or less, describe how you participate in the startup ecosystem.

Through my work, I work with start-ups that contribute to a sustainable world. Many are consumer goods products like TENZING, others provide services like C-Free. I enjoy learning what new companies are doing to innovate in the sustainability space and connect companies that may have synergies.

What are you currently reading right now and would recommend to others?

Shadow King by Maaza Mengiste. Although we’ve lived through a pandemic, most of us have not lived through war. This book helps put things into perspective. I definitely recommend.

What makes you stay in the startup ecosystem?

Start-ups are the future. I love learning about new ideas and new ways to solve existing challenges.

What drives your passion for the startup ecosystem?

The ability to do good, and to scale good.

Where do you see the startup ecosystem in 5 years?

I definitely hope to be in a position to help other start-ups, especially in the impact and sustainability space. Whether it’s advisory services or perhaps even investment, I’d love to help start-ups succeed.

How has failure, or apparent failure, set you up for later success?

Failure is normal. As it happens often, you quickly learn that it’s just part of the process. Fail, and then move on. But of course, learn the lessons and try not to fail for the same reason twice.

What is one of the best worthwhile investments you’ve ever made (could be financial, time, energy, etc.)?

Doing my MBA at Hult International Business School. I wouldn’t be where I am today had I not did the program in San Francisco, right in the heart of Silicon Valley. Not to mention all the friendships I’ve made.

What do you do to refocus yourself when you feel overwhelmed or unfocused?

I’m all about prioritization and identifying where I need to focus. I use TeuxDeux to list out all my tasks and order them and make sure I’m applying the 20/80 rule. Where will my time have the most impact – I prioritize those items. The act of prioritzation is pretty therapeutic and also helsp me focus, a win win. A glass of red wine also doesn’t hurt. Currently into a cab by Broadside, a sustainable winery from Paso Robles!

What’s one piece of advice you would give someone trying to break into the startup ecosystem?

Reach out. Get feedback. Get connected. Share your ideas, hear what people have to say. Take what’s helpful, discarded the rest. Rinse and repeat!
